Techdamentals vs GuruFocus

A research terminal with thirty years of statements against a tool that answers one question about one company in plain English. Different jobs, and a fivefold difference in price.

Who each one is for

GuruFocus, founded in Texas in 2004, is a research terminal for serious value investors: thirty years of financial statements per company, the trades of well-known investors taken from their 13F filings, insider and politician trades, screeners that can be backtested to 2006, DCF and WACC calculators you fill in yourself, its own GF Score, an Excel add-in and a data API. Fundamentals come from FactSet.

Techdamentals answers one question about one company at a time: what is it worth, why, and what does the chart say? It runs four valuation methods for you, blends them, checks the inputs against a second source, and writes the whole thing for someone who has never valued a company before.

Where GuruFocus is better

Depth, and everything that comes with it. Thirty years of statements against about five. The trades of well-known investors, insiders and politicians, which Techdamentals doesn't track at all. Screens you can backtest twenty years. An Excel add-in and an API. If research is your hobby or your job, GuruFocus is in a different league, and its price reflects that. Techdamentals is not trying to be a terminal.
