Earnings analysis

What this week's reports mean, in plain English
worth a closer look

Everything below comes from the board on this page: the same companies, days and estimates, read as one story. It answers the questions a person has about an earnings week, in the order they usually ask them.

How busy is the week?
1 company report this week. Thursday is the busiest day, with 1. 1 report before the market opens and 0 after it closes.
Who are the big names?
The biggest are PepsiCo on Thursday before the market opens. A big company's report can move its whole industry, not just its own shares.
What are analysts expecting?
Of the 1 with an estimate, 1 is expected to earn more per share than a year ago and 0 less. These are what analysts have published, not what will happen.
Who beat last time?
Of the 1 with a last quarter on record, 0 beat what analysts expected last time, 0 missed, and 1 landed about in line. Beating last time says nothing about this time, but a company that keeps missing is one the market has stopped trusting the estimates on.
Who has a verdict here?
1 of the 1 have a fair-value verdict on this site: a blue ring on the board. Which way each one reads going in is one free sign-in away, and every one of them has its own page.
What an earnings day does
The stock moves on the gap between what the company reports and what analysts expected, not on whether the numbers are good. A company can grow 20% and fall on the day because 25% was expected. After the report, the fair-value range on its page rests on numbers that just changed, so it is worth running again.
The bottom line
1 company report this week, the biggest being PepsiCo. If you own one of them, the day it reports is the day its numbers change, and the expectation to measure the report against is on its card. None of this is a recommendation. It says who reports and what analysts expect, never which way a stock will go.
How to use it
  • Hover a logo for what analysts expect, and the day and session it reports.
  • If you own one, note whether it reports before the open or after the close: that is when the move happens.
  • After it reports, open its page and run the analysis again, since the range rests on the numbers that just changed.
  • Add it to a watchlist to get an email when the price crosses its range.
